Safety
- Snohomish County showed a decrease in violent and property crime in 2009.
- Snohomish saw a 22% increase in domestic violence between 2008 and 2009. This compares to a 13% increase statewide.
- 20% of 8th graders report riding in a car with a driver who had been drinking alcohol.
Access to Community Resources
- An estimated 50% of individuals in Snohomish County who are eligible for Basic Food assistance are not accessing the help.
- More people are using 2-1-1 to connect to other services. Calls were up 5% in 2009.
Health and Well-Being
- 16% of Snohomish County adults do not have health insurance, which puts tremendous pressure on families.
- Many people do not get the medical care they need; an estimated 117,000 (23%) Snohomish County adults have not seen a doctor in at least two years. An estimated 55% of uninsured children in our region were eligible for public insurance programs, but are not enrolled.
- In Snohomish County, nearly 12% of 8th graders are overweight.
