United Way of Snohomish County celebrated the purchase of its new building with a ribbon cutting—the first building it has owned in 66 years
of service to the community.

More than 170 guests attended the April 26 open house at the new
offices, located at 3120 McDougall Avenue in Everett.

“This Community Center truly represents United Way’s focus on
long-term solutions for our community because it allows us to invest in
a wonderful building that will grow in value for the same cost each year
of being at our old location,” stated Dr. Carol Whitehead, United Way board chair.  “Long-term, even more resources will be going back into the community.  And it’s great not to pay rent!”

Three organizations who partnered to create a challenge grant of $500,000--Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The Boeing Company and Frontier Bank – were honored at the ribbon cutting, along with other donors who together gave over $1,037,000 on top of their contributions to United Way’s annual fundraising campaign. Total estimated costs for the 20,000 sq. ft building are $3.7 million. United Way occupies the top floor and leases out the first floor.

“This new location and larger meeting spaces will allow us to serve more widely as a resource for the growing number of partners with whom we are engaged,” said Carl Zapora, President and CEO of United Way.
