National Volunteer Week celebrates ordinary people doing extraordinary things to improve their communities. In Snohomish County, United Way has lots of ways you can be a part of the national “Get HandsOn” campaign to mobilize 500,000 volunteers.
Start with Salute to Volunteers Night when the Mariners take on the Orioles, Tuesday, April 20 at 7:10 pm. Tickets are $8 at mariners.com/volunteers.
Love Mother Earth? Celebrate Earth Day (April 22) and National Volunteer Week by getting down and dirty at two great projects. Sign up online.
- Adopt-a-Stream is looking for 150 volunteers to clean up Jennings Park in Marysville on Saturday, April 24 from 10 am – 2 pm. Plant native trees, clear blackberries and spread mulch, then visit educational booths and create your own Earth Day t-shirt. Families welcome.
- People for Puget Sound is restoring wetlands at Union Slough in North Everett on Saturday, April 24 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. All ages welcome.
Youth United, United Way’s teen volunteer group, will be doing salmon stream restoration on April 24 in honor of Global Youth Service Day. Youth United offers teens ages 14-19 the chance to volunteer at different monthly projects and tracks community hours.
