All individuals and families should have access to basic needs of food, shelter, health care, and the opportunity to live independently and self-sufficiently.
Through United Way’s own initiatives and through investments in community programs, the Families Matter Vision Council is targeting areas such as housing, health care, nutrition, job retraining and life-skills training to develop
strategies, resources and initiatives to improve the lives of individuals
and families in our community.
Together, we supported programs that served 204,663 individuals and families.
United Way invested $1.6 million in 50 programs for families and individuals such as homeless services, home repair, emergency housing, senior nutrition, hospice care and counseling.
We provided housing, health care, food, and transportation to many. We helped others struck by disaster, especially this past year in the wake Katrina. We funded job skill training, help for victims of abuse, and mental health programs. Nearly 38,000 of those we helped were disabled.
They live in Lynnwood, Silvana, Edmonds, Stanwood, Everett, Gold Bar, Marysville—every community and neighborhood. They live next door.
We helped provide an additional $350,00 for emergency food, shelter and utility assistance. An additional $445,000 went for shoes for school children, hot meals for seniors, and other programs that help families everyday.
