2-1-1 is the telephone number that connects you to health and human services in the community.
Looking for help with rent assistance, job training, food, shelter, or support groups? These are just some of the hundreds of social services 2-1-1 can help you access. Want to volunteer or donate items? 2-1-1 has the answer.
Whether you are looking to find help or give it, when you
call 2-1-1, you reach a trained call specialist who can connect you to the right source.
United Way took the lead in bringing 2-1-1 to Washington, where it
became available to 60% of residents on February 22, 2006.
In the first week, call volumes in our region broke records everyday as callers begin using the easy-to-remember number. The number of calls
is now 2 ½ times greater than to the old, 10-digit line.
Call 2-1-1
In a time when budget cuts reduce services and accessibility to them,
2-1-1 can help fill the information gap. 2-1-1 provides a cost effective, efficient way to connect people with services, noted Dennis Smith, Executive VP of United Way and chair of Washington Information Network 211 (WIN 211). 2-1-1 can also help during a disaster by taking the burden off 911, allowing police, fire and paramedics to focus on those who most need emergency help. In addition, 211 stores an efficient and accurate database of community resources and can track gaps in services to
better determine what services the community needs.
