2008 Best of Industry Award Winners

United Way is pleased to recognize these Best of Industry award-winning campaigns from 2008.

Financial Services – Cascade Bank
Cascade Bank epitomizes living united, from the 6’ x 20’ LIVE UNITED banner featuring bank employees displayed outside their main branch to LIVE UNITED fundraisers and their Days of Caring volunteer participation. Generous Cascade Bank employees increased their giving by 23 percent this year winning not only Best in Industry but also the top honor of the President’s Award in the company category.

School Districts – Mukilteo School District
Mukilteo School District engaged the entire staff through a LIVE UNITED travelling T-shirt contest, pizza parties and meetings. With exceptional commitment and support at every level, Mukilteo School District employees increased their overall giving and directed 77 percent of donations to the Local Community Fund. Even in challenging economic times, the school district saw a 21% increase in Leaders In Giving. This outstanding campaign garnered the President’s Award for a nonprofit.

Aerospace & Manufacturing – Royell Manufacturing, Inc.
Even with the challenges of 2008, Royell Manufacturing, Inc. employees increased their giving by 13 percent and the number of Leaders In Giving (gifts of $500 or more) by 23 percent.  CEO Jamie Yelle also gave a larger corporate gift this year—and 87 percent of all giving “stays local” through United Way’s Local Community Fund.

Auto Dealers – Rodland Toyota/Scion
Rodland Toyota held the “2008 Rodlympics.” Between the kick-off barbeque and “Thanks In Giving” turkey dinner, staff turned in a gold medal performance, with 67 percent participation, a 15 percent increase in Leaders In Giving and 91 percent giving to the Local Community Fund!

Building Industry – Granite Northwest, Inc. dba Wilder Construction Company
Local management ran with the LIVE UNITED challenge following an ownership change, revising their campaign, and encouraging their employees to participate. Leadership and employees stepped up!  Thanks to their commitment, 62 percent of the company’s campaign goes to the Local Community Fund to meet the needs of our community.

Communications – AT&T Mobility
AT&T Mobility is a superb example of a company that Lives United year-round. Monthly events encourage giving, advocating and volunteering in our community. Employees are active on United Way’s Vision Councils, the Young Leaders Society and in Days of Caring. An excellent campaign also resulted in a 7 percent increase in giving.

Food Industry – Coca-Cola Enterprises
Coca-Cola Enterprises runs a stellar campaign and the results were outstanding: a 20 percent increase in donors and a 30 percent increase in employee giving, coupled with 50 percent more Leaders In Giving. The Local Community Fund receives 78 percent of donations, supporting services in Snohomish County.

General Services – Rubatino Refuse Removal, Inc.
Strong support by ownership and labor participation resulted in nearly half of all employees donating for a 10 percent increase in giving, with 82 percent to the Local Community Fund. Nearly a quarter of all donors give at the $500+ level. A generous corporate gift is also part of the company culture and caring for the community.

Healthcare – Providence Regional Medical Center Everett
Providence’s CEO and Employee Campaign Manager challenged senior staff to set the pace for giving, and involved all staff in meetings. A personal “thank you” to all donors led to extraordinary results: triple the number of employees contributing, double the number of Leaders in Giving, and a 129 percent increase in total donations.

Insurance – State Farm Insurance - Bothell
State Farm Insurance - Bothell generated off-the-charts numbers: a 726 percent increase in giving, 200 percent increase in Leaders In Giving and 76 percent of donations to the Local Community Fund. The Employee Campaign Manager created a truly outstanding campaign that was both fun and productive.

Local Government/Public Sector – Port of Everett
The Port of Everett makes giving fun, with games, raffles, a gala and auction. Over 40 percent of employees contribute, with double-digit increases in nearly every category, from Leaders in Giving to overall donations.

Not for Profit – Community Health Center of Snohomish County
Always a strong supporter, the Community Health Center surpassed its own benchmarks with a campaign that raised 62 percent more than last year. Meetings for all employees contributed to a 175 percent increase in leadership donors, with 91 of contributions directed to the Local Community Fund.

Retail – Nordstrom Rack
Nordstrom Rack’s new store manager and a new campaign manager aimed for a 10 percent increase in giving—a high bar in a tough economy. They held daily meetings, rallies, potlucks and raffles–and beat their goal by 6 percent thanks to dedicated employees who participated even on their days off.

Technology – Agilent Technologies
Agilent runs a pacesetter campaign with strong management support, including a visit by the President and CEO from California to celebrate the results. Eighty-five percent of all employees donate, with 86 percent of all giving going to the Local Community Fund. Agilent employees are committed volunteers as well, engaged throughout the community.
