General Population Survey Results

Adequate Accessibility to Care for People with Mental or Emotional Problems
On the topic of adequate accessibility to care for people with mental or emotional problems, people were more likely to say they don't know (36%) than strongly agree (15%) or strongly disagree (17%). Those who strongly disagree tended to be:

  • 35-64 years of age (22%) compared to those under 35 (9%) or 65 and over (14%).
  • North/East residents expressed disagreement by awarding a lower mean score (3.7) than did residents of View/S. Central (4.3).
  • Residents of North/East (23%) were also more likely to strongly disagree compared to Everett/Hwy 99 (17%) or View/S. Central (12%).

Alcohol or Drug Abuse Poses a Threat
There is no clear consensus on whether alcohol or drug abuse is viewed as posing or not posing a threat to the community. One quarter (26%) strongly agree with the statement that alcohol or drug abuse poses a threat to my community, while another quarter (26%) strongly disagree with the statement.

Those who strongly disagree tended to be:

  • 65 years of age and older (36%) compared to those under 35 (23%) and those 55-64 (23%).
  • Have incomes of $55,000 or higher (32%) compared to those under $55,000 (22%).
  • Owners (28%) compared to renters (20%).
  • Residents who rated their community as "excellent" (41%) compared to "good" (23%) or "fair/poor" (19%).
  • Those who have not needed financial assistance in the past year (28%) compared to those who have (15%).
  • Residents of North/East and View/S. Central (30% each) compared to those in Everett/Hwy 99 (21%)

Those who strongly agree tended to be:

  • Those with incomes less than $35,000 (37%) compared to those with incomes $35,000 or above (20%).
  • Respondents below the poverty level (43%) compared to those above (25%).

Concern About Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Two in five (39%) respondents strongly disagreed that they were concerned about sexually transmitted diseases in their community. They tended to be:

  • Married (42%) compared to not married (34%).
  • Respondents with incomes $35,000 and over (46%) compared to those with lower incomes (28%).
  • Owners (42%) compared to renters (32%).
  • Respondents who rated their community "excellent" (48%) compared to those who said "good" (37%) or "fair/poor" (33%).
  • Residents of View/S. Central (44%) compared to Everett/Hwy 99 (35%).
  • Those who have not needed financial assistance (40%) compared to those who have (32%).
  • Those with some college education or college graduates (43%) compared to those with high school or less education (34%).

Non-English Speaking Survey Results

Non-English speaking respondents were more likely to agree that there is adequate access to mental health care (4.6 compared to 4.0 for the general population). Non-English speaking respondents were also more likely than the general population to respond that alcohol or drug abuse pose a threat to the community (4.7 compared to 4.1), that drug and alcohol abuse is widespread among the youth (4.4 compared to 4.2 in general population), that teen pregnancy is an issue (4.1 compared to 4.0 in general population), and that sexually transmitted diseases in the community concern them (4.1 compared to 3.4).

Community Leader Survey Results

Adequate Accessibility to Care for People with Mental or Emotional Problems
Two out of five respondents (43%) strongly disagreed with this statement. These respondents tended to be:

  • Fifty-five and older (53%) compared to those forty-four and under (33%).
  • Women (51%) compared to men (33%). Women also expressed their disagreement with a lower average rating (2.5) compared to the men (3.6).
  • Respondents who rated their community "fair/poor" (56%) compared to those who rated it "excellent" (35%). Those who said "fair/poor" also had a lower level of agreement (2.6) than did those who said "excellent" (3.4).

Alcohol or Drug Abuse Poses a Threat
Two out of five respondents (43%) strongly disagreed with this statement. These respondents were more likely to be:

  • Thirty-five to forty-four year olds (45%) or 55-64 year olds (49%) compared to the oldest respondents, 65+ (24%). Also 55-64 year olds (49%) compared to the youngest respondents, under 35 (25%).
  • Women expressed a higher level of agreement with a 5.2 average rating than did men with the rating of 4.7.

Concern about Sexually Transmitted Diseases
One-quarter of the respondents (24%) strongly agreed with this statement. They tended to be:

  • 35-64 year olds (25%) compared to those under 35 (8%). The average rating for the 35 to 64 year olds was higher (4.3) than for the younger group (3.1).
  • Leaders who rated their community "fair/poor" (44%) compared to "excellent" (17%). The average rating for those who said "fair/poor" was also higher (5.0) than for those who gave an "excellent" rating (3.6).
  • Non-whites (44%) compared to whites (19%). Non-whites also had a higher average rating (4.9) than whites (4.1).
