Early Learning Today, Workforce Tomorrow |
 |
Today's kids are tomorrow's workforce Bob Watt told
business leaders June 13 at United Way. Watt,
Boeing VP of State & Local Government Relations and
Global Corporate Citizenship, is heavily involved with
the state's efforts to improve early childhood
development. Other businesses should be too, Watt
said. Small investments have a huge payoff in
long-term dividends—about $14 for every $1
dollar in
terms of higher graduation rates, lower crime and
better workforce readiness. The breakfast was
sponsored by the Snohomish County Children's
Commission, United Way and Snohomish County
Human Services.

Looking forward to income taxes |
 |
Bank of America's Sterling Sankey presents a check
for $20,000 to Carl Zapora, United Way President &
CEO to support free tax preparation sites next year.
Bank of America is increasing its sponsorship after
the success of this year's pilot project. United Way
volunteers prepared 500 returns for a total of
$767,000 in refunds, of which $330,000 was in
earned income credits. Families identified basic
needs, savings and transportation as the top three
uses for their refund.
