Thank you for your support of United Way. This newsletter provides the latest information about how United Way and our partners are making a difference in the lives of kids, families and communities in Snohomish County.
Thanks to you, United Way is changing the way. From
quick fixes to real, lasting change. That’s what
matters.™
Donors were honored on March 8 at the Community
Caring Celebration. The travel theme reflected the
lives that are going places, thanks to contributions to
United Way, and to United Way’s own move into a new
building later this month.
Highlights included recognition for the Employee
Campaign Managers of the Year, the Chair Challenge
award winners, and the President’s award winners
(see full list below.) The campaign is still not
finished—with two large companies running United
Way campaigns this spring—2006 Campaign Chair
Mike Tibbits announced. However, indications are very
positive for a good campaign total.
Thanks to Kim Buike, master of ceremony for
the evening. Thanks also to special guest speakers
Hope Duncan, Terry Feller, Jake Hecla and Lisa
Clarke, and to John Dickson, CEO of Frontier Bank,
who will serve as 2007 Campaign Chair.
The evening can best be summed up by Matt
Reinhard, immediate past board chair’s
comment, "Great event ... how are you all possibly
going to top this next year?"
Lee Trevithick, director of Cocoon House and chair of
the Human Service Executives of Snohomish County
had this to say, “Congratulations to you and your staff
on an outstanding celebration! It seemed to have just
the right balance between professionalism and
personal warmth that makes it a memorable
occasion.”
Thanks a million! The million-dollar mark for United Way’s capital campaign was announced at the Community Caring Celebration, and the Challenge Grant partners who together gave $500,000 toward the new building were honored with “Going Places” awards. President’s Award
We are pleased to announce that we have reached the $1 million mark for the capital campaign for United Way’s new building. The new space will allow us to serve more widely as a resource for the growing number of community partners with whom we are engaged, offering a central location and more meeting spaces. We are grateful to all those who have contributed to the new United Way Community Center. An Open House will be held April 26 from 4-6 p.m. All are welcome to come by for a ribbon cutting, to enjoy refreshments and to help thank those people whose generosity has made it possible for United Way to purchase its first-ever building!
New Address Effective March 30, 2007
United Way and the Workforce Development Council kicked off the second Build for Tomorrow Individual Development Account class and celebrated 2003- 2008 graduates on March 15. The IDA initiative provides credit counseling, financial training and matched savings to help low-income people pay for a business startup or an education. Cascade Bank and Washington Mutual were on hand to provide a financial literacy overview and open savings accounts for 13 new participants. The class now has 30 people enrolled, and plans to enroll an additional 20 sometime this year.
Thanks to the EverTrust Foundation for their grant to United Way of $20,000. The money will be used as the local required match to secure a federal grant for Individual Development Account holders. Specifically, IDA recipients in the Build for Tomorrow class who are saving for a post-secondary education will benefit from this generous grant.
Find your best volunteer fit at the 2007 Volunteer Expo on Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Everett Mall. For more information call United Way’s Volunteer Center at 425.921.3459 or visit www.uwsc.org.
