Thank you for your support of United Way. This newsletter provides the latest information about how United Way and our partners are making a difference in the lives of kids, families and community in Snohomish County. Thanks to you, United Way is changing the way. From quick fixes to real, lasting change. That’s what matters.TM
Children live better lives when their families are strong, and families are strong when they live in communities that connect them to economic opportunities, social networks, and services. These "connections" include: economic self- sufficiency, family-sustaining jobs, dependable transportation, reliable child care, accessible health care, education and training, and affordable housing. This is exactly the work that United Way and its partners are engaged in everyday through the Kids Matter, Families Matter and Community Matters Vision Councils. It is work supported by every donor who contributes to United Way’s Local Community Fund and by every volunteer. To find out how you can be part of it, visit our website at www.uwsc.org or call 425.921.3447. And when you’re celebrating Thanksgiving this week, give thanks for your family. The Alliance for Children and Families, a nonprofit membership association representing child- and family-serving organizations in the United States and Canada, has directed National Family Week efforts for more than 30 years. National Family Week is supported by The Annie E. Casey Foundation.
United Way is on the move! For 65 years, United Way has been helping people right here at home in Snohomish County—without ever owning a “home” of our own. Now, United Way is moving to the corner of 3120 McDougall Avenue and 32nd Street in Everett. The new “United Way Community Center” will offer 19,680 sq. ft. of modern construction, 50 parking spaces and a visible location within easy walking distance of the new County campus, Everett Events Center and Everett Station. Purchasing a building reduces operating expenses by redirecting rental costs toward an asset that will accrue in value. United Way and the community will also enjoy other gains: a central location and larger meeting spaces that can be a resource for a growing number of partners; space to lease to other nonprofits that allows for efficiencies through shared technology and meeting rooms; an increase in net assets; and equity that will, over time, substantially decrease overhead. The Boeing Company, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Frontier Bank have generously set the pace on a $1,000,000 capital campaign with a $500,000 challenge grant. A total of $740,000 has been pledged to date, with thanks to: Aerospace Manufacturing Technologies, Kim Buike, Cascade Bank, Barbara Davis, Bob and Carole Dent, Kimberly- Clark, Connie Niva, Shirley and Eldon Nysether, Vickie and Mark Nysether, Kathy and Brad Nysether, The Nysether Foundation, Dennis and Terri Jean Smith, Dan and Deborah Squires, and Carl Zapora and Cheryl Foster. To participate or for more information, contact President & CEO Carl Zapora at 425.921.3434 or carl.zapora@uwsc.org.
Premera Blue Cross’ campaign theme this year is Shake, Rattle and Roll. Jaja Okigwe (a.k.a. The King), Employee Campaign Manager and United Way Board member, suited up as Elvis.
