Campaign is in full swing. Thanks to all the companies and employees giving back by giving to United Way!
  • Nordstrom. Mike Weis, national director of women's shoes, kicked-off the campaign by sharing how he has been helped by United Way. Meetings will all managers and staff were key to success. Managers who gave $500 and hourly employees who gave $8 per paycheck were entered in a contest to win the day before and after Christmas off with pay. The results: $38,000 total, 60% participation and 11 leadership givers!
  • Horizon Bank. With nearly 80% participation, Horizon Bank is closing in on their goal of $50,000 bank-wide.

$1.37 a day makes you a Leader In Giving and changes lives. It's change that adds up fast. What can that $500 a year provide?

  • 34 nights of shelter for the homeless

Through United Way's Local Community Fund, you not only change lives today, you help find solutions to the underlying causes of problems for lasting change.

Grants to United Way

United Way gives $3.3 million in grants each year to local programs. United Way also receives grants for initiatives it leads.

  • Free tax preparation - $45,000. Thanks to Washington state and Snohomish County's Financial Asset Development Coalition for grants to expand the Free Tax Preparation program to sites in Everett and Lynnwood and satellite services in north and east county.

  • Individual Development Accounts - $100,000.
    United Ways of Snohomish County and King County are partners in a grant for Individual Development Accounts. IDAs move families from poverty to economic stability.

  • Success By 6 - $4,000 from the Tulalip Tribes Charitable Fund to enhance early childhood development among infants and toddlers, birth - age 3.

Julian BondJulian Bond keynotes MLK Celebration

Julian Bond, Chairman of the NAACP, is the speaker for the county's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration on January 16. Kick off the day at the Diversity Breakfast, 7 a.m. at the downtown Holiday Inn. The March begins at 11 a.m. in the county plaza and ends at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center where Bond will speak at noon.

All events are free and open to the public. Reservations are required for the breakfast. RSVP information to follow. Sponsored by the City of Everett, Snohomish County, the YMCA and United Way.
