  • Chuck a puck to raise bucks

United Way teamed up with the Everett Silvertips to sell chuck-a-pucks during three games in October. With every puck purchased, fans got a chance to win big prizes. But the big winner was United Way, with $1 per puck going to fund services for kids and families in Snohomish County. The ‘Tips also donated proceeds from an online auction that
included a 2005-06 Silvertips bobblehead set and an autographed Peter Mueller stick. Thanks to all those volunteers who sold pucks! Altogether, $2,554 was raised!

    Results Matter

“She’s my life-saver,” Edith says about Kris. Kris volunteers by driving elderly and disabled people to the doctor and the food bank.
“I see in their eyes the difference it makes,” she says. United Way pays for her gas. But no one can pay for the extras she gives, like the hot meals and the hugs. Edith, 86, is only one of the 12,000 elderly and disabled people who are living safer, more independent lives thanks to donations to United Way’s Local Community Fund.

    United Way welcomes Sara Ballard

    Calling all Young Leaders

United Way’s new Young Leaders Society kicks off with a wine tasting at Wicked Cellars on November 2. Members of the Society can take part in unique professional growth opportunities, networking, volunteer projects and more. If you are between the ages of 21-44 and want to know more about Young Leaders, go to uwsc.org or email youngleaders@uwsc.org.

    Volunteers needed to prepare taxes

If you have experience preparing your own tax return and are comfortable with computers, we need you! By volunteering once a week, you can put money back in the pockets of low-income working people to pay for food, rent and other basic needs. Volunteers will be trained and certified by the IRS. Weekday, weeknight and weekend hours are available. Speakers of Spanish and Russian languages are especially needed. Contact Laura Walker at 425.921.3441 or laura.walker@uwsc.org.
