Lethia and Pierre's Story

United Way of Snohomish County: Lethia and PierreUnited Way’s goal is to help people help themselves, teaching families about budgeting, credit and finances while they work and save to become independent.

When Lethia and her husband, Pierre, were both laid off, things looked bleak. The Individual Development Account (IDA) program helped Pierre get a commercial driver’s license and a second-hand truck to launch Abracadabra Movers.

Starting over isn’t magic—it’s hard work. But for Lethia, who was orphaned and on the streets at 16, it’s a blessing after years of struggle.

“Just because you were homeless, just because you were abused—it doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a new beginning,” Lethia says. There are programs that give you money. Giving to United Way is about giving people the opportunity to succeed.”
