Free Tax Preparation

United Way of Snohomish County's Free Tax Preparation Campaign

In its 12th year, United Way of Snohomish County will offer Free Tax Preparation Services to families and individuals who earn less than $66,000. In partnership with the IRS as part of their Volunteer Tax Assistance Program (VITA), United Way’s Free Tax Prep is designed to ensure that residents receive all the tax credits and deductions for which they are eligible.
Last year 3,751 tax returns were filed for neighbors making an average of $26,567 for a grand total of $5,041,434 in refunds that returned to the pockets of hard-working Snohomish County residents. For all of last year's results, download a copy of our 2017 Free Tax Preparation Campaign Report.
This year, United Way is launching a Drop-Off Model for its Free Tax Prep. A national model from VITA, drop off locations increases access to related resources, reduces wait times, and expands free tax prep services to rural areas!

Drop-Off is as easy as 1-2-3!

  1. Taxpayer Interview
Tax counselor greets the taxpayer, explains drop off process and how tax documents will be handled securely and stored electronically. Approximate interview time: 20 minutes.
  2. Tax Prep
IRS-trained tax preparers complete clients’ taxes at remote tax prep locations.
  3. Return Pick Up
Taxpayers can return to pick-up their tax return one week later, at the same location and during the same hours as they dropped off their return. Tax counselor will e-file the return with the client, walk through next steps, and answer questions. Approximate time: 10-20 minutes.

Important: What to Bring

We cannot prepare your return unless you bring ALL required documentation.  Download a full list of necessary documents to bring with you when you drop off your taxes.
