Mission Update: UWSC Appoints New Executive Director

Greetings,

With gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility, I’m writing to introduce myself as the new Executive Director of United Way of Snohomish County.

While this leadership role is new to me, I’m not new to the organization. I’ve served as our Director of Marketing & Communications for two years, followed by a short term as Deputy Executive Director under the guidance of our Interim President & CEO, Maya Hemachandra. I’m incredibly grateful to Maya and our Board of Directors for their support and trust during this transition. Since stepping into this role permanently in December, I’ve spent the past few months working alongside our dedicated team as we continue to evolve our efforts to better serve our community.

This year has already brought complex challenges. From rising costs and systemic inequities to growing resistance to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts, we are navigating a shifting and uncertain landscape. Still, our commitment remains unwavering: to improve the lives of families in Snohomish County and advance a future where everyone can thrive.

As we develop a new strategic plan this year, we are grounding that work in deep listening. We will be hosting listening sessions, engaging directly with community members, facilitating webinars, and evaluating where and how our organization can be most impactful. We’re asking hard questions, and we’re open to honest answers. This work is not only about honoring our history—it’s about ensuring that United Way of Snohomish County remains a responsive, accountable, and equity-driven partner moving forward.

As we mark our 85th year in Snohomish County, I hold deep respect for the legacy of this organization and the communities that have shaped it. I also recognize that there is much more work ahead. I'm committed to leading with transparency, curiosity, and collaboration as we continue building toward a more equitable future—together.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for the trust you place in us. I’m honored to do this work alongside you.

Warmly,

Brittany Williams
Executive Director
