Community Investment Strategy
United Way of Snohomish County brings people, resources, and strategy together to improve lives—so every family can reach their fullest potential, now and for generations to come, regardless of race, place, or ability.
Since our founding as the Everett Community Chest in 1941, we have worked to coordinate charitable giving and direct resources where they are needed most across our community. Over the last 85 years of community service and impact, that work has evolved. United Way is no longer just a fundraiser—we are a strategic community impact investor, partnering with local organizations and initiatives to advance equitable, community-led solutions.
Our focus is clear: removing systemic barriers and expanding access to opportunity for ALICE households—families who are working but still struggling to afford the basics. In Snohomish County, nearly 40% of households fall below the ALICE Threshold, including those living in poverty and those earning above it but still unable to make ends meet.
Because ALICE families are often ineligible for traditional assistance, UWSC prioritizes funding for:
- Community-driven programs
- Cross-sector partnerships
- Targeted initiatives that address service gaps
These investments stabilize households, strengthen local systems, and help families move from surviving to thriving.
