Varsity Letter In Community Service


The 2019-20 school year will be the final year of the Varsity Letter Program. For more information contact

United Way of Snohomish County partners with local school districts to recognize high school students who have made an exceptional commitment to community service (145 volunteer hours in a calendar year).

Set and achieve a challenging goal for volunteering! You can list your VLCS as a unique and outstanding achievement in your college, scholarship, and job applications. Unlike national awards for volunteering, your VLCS is connected to your high school, just like a varsity letter for athletics, academics or music.


  • Complete the VLCS Application in full, and submit on or before April 1, 2020

  • Complete a total of at least 145 hours of community service between April 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020

  • These hours must include at least 70 hours of CORE-aligned service work (benefiting children birth to age 8 and their families with low income in Snohomish County)

  • Enter all hours on for review     

  • Must be in grades 9-12 in a Snohomish County school

  • Complete application checklist and all required documents

  • 2.0 GPA or higher

  • Submit $15 application fee
    Instated in 2016 to help cover costs associated with patches and award packets. If unable to pay, contact with the reason, plus any documentation on financial aid you may be receiving. If interested in sponsoring a student, please send a check, payable to United Way of Snohomish County, to 3120 McDougall Ave. Ste. 200, Everett, WA 98201, Attn: Varsity Letter.
