Stanwood Poverty Simulation

On Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, Stanwood-Camano Community Resource Center, United Way of Snohomish County, and the Making Life Work Collaborative joined together for an interactive workshop called the Cost of Poverty Experience Simulation (COPES).

A COPES gives participants a unique view into the complex social issues that contribute to poverty and homelessness. Participants were divided into small “family” teams and experienced challenges faced by people in situational or generational poverty. COPES event participants have reported gaining a deeper understanding of the complexity of poverty and have gone on to create changes in their own agencies, schools, and public policy.
